Morning Meditation
Meditation is the art of focusing 100% of your attention in one area. The practice comes with a myriad of well-publicized health benefits including increased concentration, decreased anxiety, and a general feeling of happiness.
So, after the meditation you do right now, for the subsiquent meditations, choose a time when you know you are not likely to be disturbed and are free to relax and enjoy.
The moment you know that you have returned from a distracting thought, apply the mental label ‘thinking’ and return your awareness to your breathing.
If we are going to devote some time to our meditation practice, we want to know that the effort is worth it. It’s reassuring to know that not only generations of Buddhist masters, but increasingly also modern researchers, attest to the fact that meditation leads to increased levels of wellbeing.
Breathing deep slows the heart rate, relaxes the muscles, focuses the mind and is an ideal way to begin practice.
